Hi Guys,

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

Up to now we have looked at various aspects of renewable home energy solution, however there is a crucial element that we haven’t looked at yet: Energy Storage.

Most home energy solutions operate within a just-in-time system framework; that is during the day their solar panels and wind turbines produce electricity and any surplus produced is pushed back into the grid. At night, their reduced electricity production often forces them to draw electricity from the grid.

At best you consume as much as you produce and if you use more than you produce you still have you still have reduced electricity bills.

Although we are going to concentrate on photovoltaic cells for solar energy and wind turbines for home energy solutions I believe that if you have the space then it is advisable to store some of the energy you produce.

Without storage, you operate within a “just-in-time” framework that is not only dependent on your variable end-use demands, but you are also completely at the mercy of one of the most uncontrollable variables known to us: the weather. After all wind turbines are useful only when the wind blows and photovoltaic panels work only when the sun is shining. Energy storage is therefore needed to store surplus electricity produced at times of low demand.

To date cost-effective energy storage has been the orphan stepchild of alternative energy even though energy storage is a core enabling technology for many classes of alternative energy. Because of this power storage has been a key constraint in preventing the widespread adoption and use of solar and wind energy in general.

The trouble is that the period during which energy is generate from renewable sources, cannot always be matched to the time of demand. This leads to volatility in your supply and reduced reliability and stability. Energy storage systems are therefore an integral part of any renewable energy system especially if you go off grid.

Energy storage must consider both the amount of energy that can be stored (energy density of the material) and the efficiency at which it can be recovered.

Short duration storage technologies are frequently more important than long duration systems. In general, technologies that can store huge amounts of energy are not particularly good at releasing it quickly and technologies that can deliver energy quickly are not particularly good at releasing huge amounts of energy.

When an energy storage system is used you get stability within the electrical system and the quality of the voltage supplied will be considerably higher than under a just-in-time system.

From a user point of view there are both technical and commercial criteria for selecting the most suitable technology. This does not stop there though; because when one considers an electricity storage system one has to balance the technical with the economics and each case needs to be looked at individually. It ultimately all boils down to a return on your investment.

As far as energy storage goes conventional, commercially available lead-acid batteries have a very high-energy efficiency and all other energy storage technologies have to compete with this.

Batteries are the most expensive item in renewable home energy systems when considering the system’s total lifetime costs; and there are big variations in battery lifetime in different installations.

Rechargeable batteries or accumulators are the oldest form of electricity storage and are widely used. However, progress in battery technology has been slow.

Batteries can respond to changes in power demand within microseconds. Only super-capacitors equal such a response time. Batteries usually have very low standby losses and can have high energy efficiency, depending on the application and the details of the operation.

Most batteries contain toxic materials, hence the ecological impact from uncontrolled disposal of batteries must always be considered. Because of this current battery research focuses on new and improved materials and manufacturing processes, as well as on their operating conditions.

Ultimately the choice is yours on whether you operate a just-in-time energy system or whether you integrate an energy storage system into your home energy system.

One could start with a just-in-time system and gradually incorporate a energy storage system gradually to your home energy system with some the money you save on your electrical bill.

As always, I wish you everything I wish for myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you are having a good day.

This post ties in quite neatly with my previous post on the reasons why renewable / alternative energy technologies have not really taken off.

I hold to the maxim that energy is neither created nor destroyed but merely converted from one form to another; and I believe that even in unusual energy cases i.e. perpetual motion machines etc, it will be but a matter of time before science catches up with science fiction and will be able to identify and quantify the source of energy that is being harnessed by these machines.

OK, we are not there yet but this comes quite close to such a machine. I remembered that quite a few years back I watched a documentary about an inventor who had created a machine that generated more energy than it consumed.

The documentary mentioned threats to and attempts made on his life when he had refused to sell his invention. The documentary also showed the great length he had to go to, to ensure his safety.

Once again, the knowledge, which the climate/industrial/governmental complex has tried to keep from us, has broken free. Pandora’s box has been opened and their worst nightmare may be coming true – we have the freedom to generate our own electricity. The genie has come out of the bottle and there in no way of putting him back in there. With each new step towards micro-generation of home energy generation loosens our shackles.

As far back as 1988 cars ran on magnetic energy. However, this was quickly suppressed and slick campaigns ensured that collective amnesia ensued.

Since then, the technology of magnetic energy has improved to become so powerful that an entire house can be powered just by using the energy from a small magnet. This has the potential of making many if not all of the other energy sources obsolete.

A zero point magnetic power generator for the home can easily produce up to 24 kWh of electricity per day. This is more than the 6853 kWh of electricity we currently use in a year. One has to take into account peak usage periods but I am sure that with a bit of planning one can average out some of the peaks.

And if a bit more power is required one can always hook up another generator or other source of renewable energy such as solar or wind energy to meet your energy needs.

Variations and combination’s will provide a permanent power supply that should eliminate the need for energy storage in the form of batteries.

So why not head off to Magniwork to see whether you may benefit from tomorrow’s energy today.

Using the Magniwork generator, you will be able to generate absolutely free electric energy. It is easy to construct and doesn’t require any external source of energy to power itself. The Magniwork generator works by itself, and can independently power your home and help you say goodbye to the power bill. Proceed to the Magniwork Website.

Stay tuned for further development in zero point magnetic power generators.

As always, I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

Today I’m not going to talk about renewable home energy solutions but I’m going to post an article about a subject that I think involves everybody – the great global warming scam.

For me renewable home energy solutions is about freedom. My freedom to do what I want with my money. If I can generate my own electricity, heat my home in the winter and cool my home in the summer without having to pay ever increasing energy costs (including hidden taxes to pay for so called green energy) then I will have achieved my goals.

Here is the article by Gary North.

It’s Not Just That Global Warming Is Fake. What Matters Is Why This Fakery Is Being Promoted.
Gary North

July 3, 2009

Global warming is based 100% on junk science. The most vocal promoters are not interested in the details of physical science. They are interested in two things: political control over the general public and the establishment of international socialism.

Junk Science vs. Real Science

For a detailed, footnoted, 12-page article, written by three scientists, two with Ph.D’s from CalTech. , Click here

This paper was sent to tens of thousands of natural scientists in the United States.

Over 31,000 scientists have put their reputations on the line and signed a politically incorrect petition opposing the 1997 Kyoto agreement or protocol. Here is a photocopy of a signed petition.

<img src="http://renewablehomeenergysolutions.com/wp-content/themes/productreview/images/petition.jpg" alt="petition" title=" politically incorrect petition opposing the 1997 Kyoto agreement or protocol "

Here is a letter from a former president of the National Academy of Sciences. He asks recipients of the petition to sign it.

Back in the 1970′s, the bugaboo was the coming ice age, as this Time Magazine article promoted. Not to be outdone, Newsweek got on board. The article warned: “Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects.” Want more examples? Click here.

It, too, was based on junk science. It, too, had the same solution: government control over the economy. The goal never changes: government management over the economy. The justification has changed. If the voters won’t accept control over their lives on the basis of one brand of junk science, maybe they will accept another. As they used to say in the Nixon Administration: “Let’s run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes.”

Socialism’s Last Stand

The global warming movement is not about global warming. It is about the creation of an international political control arrangement by which bureaucrats who favor socialism can gain control over the international economy.

This strategy was stated boldly by economist Robert Heilbroner in 1990. Heilbroner, the multi-millionaire socialist and author of the best-selling history of economic thought, The Worldly Philosophers, wrote the manifesto for these bureaucrats. He did this in an article, “Reflections: After Communism,” published by The New Yorker (Sept. 10, 1990).

In this article, he made an astounding admission. He said that Ludwig von Mises had been right in 1920 in his article, ”Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth”. Mises argued that without private ownership, central planners could not know what any resource is worth to consumers. With no capital market, the planners would be flying blind.

Heilbroner said that for 70 years, academic economists had either ignored this article or dismissed it without answering it. Then Heilbroner wrote these words: “Mises was right.”

Heilbroner was one of these people. There is no reference to Mises in The Worldly Philosophers.

This admission was the preliminary section of Heilbroner’s manifesto. He was cutting off all hope by socialists that there is a theoretically plausible response to Mises. The free market economy will always outproduce a socialist economy. Get used to it, he said.

Then, in the second section, he called on his socialist peers to get behind the ecology movement. Here, he said, is the best political means for promoting central planning, despite its inefficiency. In the name of ecology, he said, socialists can get a hearing from politicians and voters.

The article is not online. An abstract is. Here is the concluding thought of the abstract.

The direction in which things are headed is some version of capitalism, whatever its title. In Eastern Europe, the new system is referred to as Not Socialism. Socialism may not continue as an important force now that Communism is finished. But another way of looking at socialism is as the society that must emerge if humanity is to cope with the ecological burden that economic growth is placing on the environment. From this perspective, the long vista after Communism leads through capitalism into a still unexplored world that roust [must?] be safely attained and settled before it can be named.

Heilbroner did not care that a worldwide government-run economic planning system would not be called called socialism. He just wanted to see the system set up.

Heilbroner’s peers got the message. That was what Kyoto was all about.

Conclusion

If you like poverty, inefficiency, and bureaucratic controls over the economy, and therefore control over your choices, the “climate change” movement is ideal.

If you want to subsidize China and India, neither of which will enforce the rules laid down by unelected international bureaucrats, this movement is for you.

If you want to pay more for less energy , there is no better way than to pass the cap and tax bill which the House has passed. It will be sent to the U.S. Senate next week.

The rest of us should oppose it.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you have had a good day.

Today, 29th June 2009, I was browsing the Internet when I came across an article from the Guardian, a British newspaper. The article’s title was Energy bills ‘too low’ to combat climate change and its subtitle was Royal Society report says current government policy is not enough to pay for green technology. That said it all for me.

I refer to my previous articles from the 18th June 2009 – Renewable Home Energy Solutions – The Case Against Commercial Industrial Wind Power and 23rd June 2009 – Cost Implication of Going Green respectively, which explain the reason why energy prices are as high as they are in the United Kingdom. It all boils down to the captive consumer being forced to subsidize energy policies that don’t even work.

While I agree that more research is required to improve the efficacy of solar panels, energy storage and other renewable energy solutions I believe that the science should stand or fail without the general public being screwed over by the vested interest of the climate-industrial complex.

Let’s face it, such policies always hit the poorer segments of society.

Renewable home energy solutions are totally viable but government and the rest of the climate-industrial complex keep getting in the way.

Planning regulations in the United Kingdom has often stopped small turbines designed specifically for micro-generation from being mounted directly onto existing buildings and also denied planning permission to those who want solar panels on their houses.

It would appear that many of these policies are aimed at discouraging you the home owner from being self-sufficient in energy and the more we demonstrate that these practices are at odds with so-called government and EU policy the better. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to get rid of the politicians and petty bureaucratic jobsworths that get in our way to self-sufficiency in energy.

As always, I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Alain

Hi Guys,

I hope that you have had a good day today.

Today I’ll be looking at calculating the cost of your existing energy consumption as an initial step to design your renewable home energy system as well as reducing your current energy needs.

If we wish to use renewable energy for our home then it would be a good idea to know what our current energy usage is. Basically carry out an audit of your energy usage in order to establish a base point from which to calculate your load requirement for your solar panels and wind power.

Consider each appliance in your home and its energy use. Some appliances like kettles, toasters and the like draw a considerable amount of power when used but at the same time are used for a short time each day.

Once you know what your current energy usage is you can take steps to start reducing the amount of energy you use.

For instance, I know that it’s a lot less hassle to dry our clothing in a tumble dryer than on a washing line. However to dry a single load can take up to between 70 minutes to 140 minutes. Assuming that, like us, you have on average of 7 loads in a week, therefore with a 3.3 kWh/cycle (my current tumble dryer energy consumption), assuming a 12-hour constant tumbling time per week, you will be using an approximate 2059.2 kWh a year. This costs me around £186.77 per year.

I can probably save up to half the cost by putting the washing on the washing line and spend the money on myself instead.

One of the changes that is relatively easy to make concerns the illumination of your home.

When considering the illumination of your home you should consider the following:

The general lighting of a room;

Localized or task lighting i.e. concentrated light for activities such as reading, sowing and cooking; and

Accent or mood lighting to create atmosphere or to focus attention on certain objects or areas.

For instance I in parts of my home I initially reduced eight 50-watt lights to 25 watt and then reduced them even further to 2-watt LED lights. For one thing the 50 and 25-watt lights needed replacing regularly whilst I have yet to replace a single LED light.

A simple calculation shows the savings made by doing these changes:

Running the 50 watt lights for 3 hours a night I would be using 1200 watt hours per night i.e. 438 kWh per year. Using the 25-Watt bulbs I automatically halved that. However, with the 2 Watt LED light bulbs my energy use for this room has dropped to 17.52 kWh a year; a cost saving of £38.14 at current electricity prices i.e. £0.0907/kWh. Now it might not sound like a lot but one should bear in mind that this was for just one room.

As appliances need replacing they are replaced with appliances with better energy rating. I look at the energy rating of the appliances as well as the price when comparing new appliances. For instance I had to replace our condenser tumble dryer and I opted for a vented tumble dryer as there was a 0.5 kWh difference per cycle.

Each of these small savings add up in the end and can make quite a difference to you pocket over time.

Each small saving made this way reduces the load requirement of your renewable energy, which in turn means less solar panels, and energy storage requirements.

As always, I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

As I actively promote Renewable Home Energy Solutions that include wind power you may be surprised that I don’t endorse the use of industrial wind power generation.

I will go into the reasons I believe that commercial wind power cannot be regarded as green energy. I have thought long and hard about this subject and my observations have brought me to the conclusions detailed below.

The main problem with wind power is it’s variability i.e. if the wind blows or blows too hard the turbines stop spinning. This means that these fluctuations in electricity production cause a roller coaster of surges on the power grid linked to these turbines.

The reason for this is that electricity cannot be stored directly on an industrial scale therefore because there are no large electricity storage capacity the commercial wind generators operate in a just-in-time system framework i.e. the electricity generated by these turbines is pushed onto the power grid as soon as it is generated.

To counter this, gas turbines are built as backups to compensate for the troughs. These backup gas turbines have to be resilient as they are throttled up and down depending on demand. The power grids linked to commercial wind generators have to be monitored constantly and by constantly I mean second by second to ensures a constant electricity supply throughout the grid.

So if you believe the exaggerations sprouted about carbon dioxide being a so-called green house gas then you are going to be sorely disappointed about commercial wind generation as the necessary backup gas turbines still emit carbon dioxide. As the generation and demand have to be balanced on the grid constantly throttling gas and oil turbines up and down to counter losses and gains from wind turbines generates more CO2 per kWh generated than if operated normally.

Wind power is expensive, unreliable and won’t save on natural gas. Wind power in the United Kingdom, Europe’s windiest country, comes at a steep price. A price that greatly distorts the markets as the real cost of wind power is hidden.

While the rest of Europe experienced a 15% price rise, the United Kingdom experienced a 29.7 % rise in gas and electricity prices. Ofgem, (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) the government regulator for the electricity and downstream natural gas markets in the United Kingdom, believes that wind subsidies was a prime factor for the difference and questions the logic when, taking all the public investment into account, wind generates a mere 1.3% of the United Kingdom’s energy needs.

According to the United Kingdom’s government statistics, in 2006, the average load factor for wind turbines across the United Kingdom was just 27.4% with the worst performing turbine having a load factor of only 7%. Therefore a typical 2MW turbine only produced 0.54MW on average. This does not compare well with the 90% load factor for thermal plants.

The poor return on investment is obscured by the subsidy system which allows turbine operators and supporters to claim that they make a profit even when wind turbines operate at very low load factors.

Apart from the high cost of wind power, the perceived benign environmental impact of commercial wind turbines does not correspond with the latest studies on migratory bird and bat mortality. The mortality of within the already declining bird population include raptors and eagles

There is also considerable public protest over the noise and health effects such as provoked by these installation. Chronic sound trauma due to the low frequency noise generated by the blades and infrasound transmitted through the ground.

Further cause for concern include the devaluation of real estate for neighbouring properties, the degradation of natural heritage and the potential loss of the tourist industries in surrounding areas.

The unholy partnership of self interested businesses, so-called scientists, grandstanding politicians, alarmist campaigners and a main stream media pushing their sponsors agendas provide a new twist on a very old practice; companies and individuals using public policy to line their own pockets. This loose grouping, termed the Climate-Industrial Complex do not promote any discussion or free thoughts on the matter but vilify any person not on message. They would make the Spanish Inquisition proud in their labelling any and all dissenters as heretics.

As an afterthought, maybe just maybe, in light of the financial irregularities with minister’s expenses in the United Kingdom, we should follow the money and investigate the relationship between the “partners” of the Climate-Industrial Complex and look at the politician’s personal investments within this industry.

However, I do believe that wind power has a place within Renewable Home Energy Solutions either as a complementary mix to solar energy or as stand alone provided one stores excess energy in an array of batteries.

I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

Are energy cost driving you crazy? You can bet your bottom dollar that it’s not going to get any better real soon.

Let’s face it the Power Companies are charging us way too much for power! And yes, we do need electricity but until now we had no other way of getting it.

Prices for energy have risen, year by year, at alarming rates and the basic reasons for doing so are not going to change in the foreseeable future.

By now, I’m sure that you must have considered generating your own electricity. I know that I did, every time that I receive an gas or electricity bill. It did not seen to matter what I did to try to keep our energy bills down, the bills kept on rising.

If you are thinking about purchasing a solar electricity system for your home or business then you are joining millions of other energy-conscious individuals around the world.

Solar electricity systems provide reliable, pollution free energy from a renewable resource better known as the sun. Solar electricity systems are becoming more affordable as advancements are made in photovoltaic designs and construction.

Adding to the affordability, many solar electricity systems are able to participate in net metering in several states. This means that if your solar electricity system generates more power than you are using, your meter runs backwards resulting in an even swap of power that you use at other times when you exceed the power supplied by your own solar electricity system.

As most home energy solutions operate within a just-in-time system framework. This means that the surplus energy produced by the system is not stored. It is either used as it is produced or, if you are participating in a net mettering system, pushed back into the grid. At night, your reduced electricity production forces you to draw electricity from the grid. This system certainly cuts your electricity bills and may even produce a small windfall if you use less electricity than you produce.

Before you invest in a solar electricity system for your home or business, it is advantageous to understand exactly what you are purchasing and how solar electricity is generated.

The building block of any solar electricity system is the photovoltaic cell. Photovoltaic cells are wired together to produce solar electricity modules. The electricity produced from the modules or panels is then passed through an inverter that changes the current from AC to DC, making it usable to power household appliances and the utility grid.

It is often to your advantage to incorporate batteries into a solar electricity system so that you are able to store excess electricity generated by your system. The stored electricity can then be used in times of low sun light and power outages.

It is important to realize that solar electricity systems work only when the sun’s UV light hits them. This is not a problem if you utilize battery backup systems or are connected to the grid.

Installing a commercial solar electricity system. However, with net metering and government funded rebates, many are able to pay off systems much more quickly.

The cost of installing some of the commercial solar electricity system to a home can come with an initially high investment cost and it can makes it very difficult to get a return on your investment. However, with net metering and government funded rebates, many are able to pay those systems off much more quickly.

You definitely don’t need to understand the physics of solar electricity systems to understand it’s appeal. A solar electricity system will never run out of fuel nor will it increase our dependency on foreign oil.

Stop thinking about a solar electricity system for your home or business and start investing in your freedom by starting your research of solar electricity systems today.

I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

We will be exploring the benefits of green solar energy in connection with renewable home energy.

Every 15 minutes the sun produces enough power to supply our current energy needs for an entire year. The United Kingdom due to its distance from the equator receives 60% of the solar energy received at the equator. This energy equates to between 900 to 1200 kWh per square metre per year.. This energy is equivalent to the energy production of 1000 power stations.

The energy coming from the sun fluxes and wanes depending on the solar activity. The less sun spot activity on our sun the less energy emitted.

To really understand and exploit the benefits of green solar energy, one needs to understand how solar energy is harnessed.

Green solar energy can be divided into two types i.e. thermal (heat) and light.

Thermal energy is considered passive solar energy. The use of passive solar energy in housing involves the placement of the building for optimum benefit, the building design and position of suitable building components to make full use of sunlight for day lighting, passive heating, and/or passive cooling. Apart from saving energy, the primary benefit of a passive solar home is the improved comfort of its occupants.

Thermal energy is harnessed through the design and materials used to construct a building.

The building gathers energy from the sun the old fashioned way; by allowing it to stream in through the windows…

By incorporating the right ratio of south facing wall to windows (if you live northern hemisphere) and using heat retaining materials, such as brick and stone and with a little intelligent design and planning, a passive solar home or building can get a full quarter of its heat from the sun alone. That same thermal energy can also be used to heat water for solar hot water systems.

In a passive solar house window placement and sizes are crucial as they can affect the heat gain or loss during various months of the year.

When designing and planning a passive solar home the ultimate goal is to have a home that is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Passive solar home energy systems can easily be integrated with active solar systems.

A passive solar system functions best in an energy efficient home with a well designed mechanical system.

It unfortunate that in mass produced housing the principles of passive thermal energy are hardly ever used.

A passive solar system can only be a part of an energy efficient home and should not be considered as a stand alone solution to saving energy.

To reduce the need to use lights within the home during the day tubular skylights along with sky tubes and solar tunnels can be used.

The rays of the sun also produce light and radiation that can be captured by solar panels to create electricity.

For the majority of home owners the reason to use renewable home energy is to reduce their utility bills. Constructing a green solar energy system can come with a large initial investment, however they generally pay for themselves within a few years by providing either supplemental electricity or all of the electricity to your home or business.

Building your own solar panels, participating in government refunds and net metering, in which you sell unused electricity back to the power company, can reduce the cost of implementing a green solar energy system.

In addition, green solar energy systems require little to no maintenance after installation, as most have no moving parts.

You don’t have to construct the whole solar energy system in one go, you can easily construct solar panels in modular sections and incorporate them into your home energy system whenever you complete a new panel.

Green solar energy systems can be used by homes and businesses alike. If going solar cannot meet all of your energy needs, it can certainly reduce them. Utilizing Green solar energy can save you money, but it’s greatest benefit is to the environment and our future.

As always, I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

While it may seem strange that a blog that actively promotes renewable home energy solutions I am dead set against many of the policies forced upon us by the climate-industrial complex / environmentalist movement.

Our current western technological civilisation was built upon energy provided by carbon based fossil fuel. Without the relatively inexpensive and reliable energy provided by coal, oil, and gas, our civilization would quickly collapse. This is exactly what the global warmist would like us to do.

New energy technologies will not magically appear if we stop using carbon based energy as some would like us to believe. Political will and coercion cannot repeal the laws of physics and chemistry. And no matter what Al Gore and the global warmist would let you believe we cannot achieve prosperity by destroying the very means by which prosperity is created.

With the west and its mountain of red tape appears confused and crippled with self-doubt and guilt its role as the torchbearers of human advancement is being eclipsed by the east.

Even though I believe that solar and wind power have a place in home energy solutions the church of environmentalism and global warming would classified me as a heretic. With this in mind let me commit another heretical act.

I’ve previously touched upon carbon trading schemes in this article I plan to go further in establishing a case against carbon trading schemes.

I cannot for the life of me understand the idiocy behind carbon trading schemes unless I look at it as a scam; the theft of even more wealth from the middle classes. Carbon trading produces nothing.

The problem is that carbon emissions are involved in every aspect of the human experience – whether that is eating, breathing, thinking, working, playing or dying. There is not a living thing on this planet that either ingests or emits carbon. We are carbon based beings and use carbon to keep us warm, cook our carbon based food and light up our homes.

For me it is always about the big picture. I look at the numbers, at who benefits from particular policy, at who is pushing what and I follow the money. It is too easy to allow ones emotions to cloud their judgement, to allow the propaganda and slick infomercials to get the better of you. In fact main stream media in the form of radio, television and newspapers disseminate a considerable amount of climate-industrial complex based propaganda on a daily basis.

For me personally I want to know about the benefits; whether something benefits me in the first instance and society at large in the second instance. I want to know the facts and I certainly do not want others to make decisions for me.

When it comes to environmental issues it is best to have a healthy dose of sceptism and to read widely on the subject including views that don’t correspond with your own views. There is so much bad science surrounding the subjects of environmentalist, global warming and climate change. Environmentalist, global warming and those with vested interest edit facts that don’t fit their narratives.

They ignore the sun’s effect upon our planet including the fact that we are in a period of low solar activity. They also ignore volcanic activity.

I believe that grandstanding politicians jumped onto the carbon trading schemes to make it look like they are actually acting on climate change. However the complex legislation that governs emission levels and forces us into carbon unit trading will be an expensive and economically destructive way to bring about change.

Carbon trading is a virtual market in a non existent commodity for an undeliverable product that is already permeating the developed world, exciting lawyers, bankers, brokers, bureaucrats, auditors, engineers and a plethora of consultants. They know that although there is no real value or actual product being created, they will be able to, with the help of the politicians, fleece the general public/taxpayers of vast sums of money.

Carbon trading schemes are already making fortunes for some people including Al Gore. Richer people can buy credits to keep on emitting while smaller businesses will go to the wall.

Carbon trading schemes are an open invitation to corruption and fraud. It exposes governments to lobbying by interest groups seeking special favors, concessions and exemptions. And as always, governments will find it politically impossible not to favor some at the expense of others. The opportunities for evasion, avoidance, special pleading, cheating and fraud will be endless.

Where carbon trading schemes have been in operation as in the European Union, there has already been manipulation, cooking of the books, corruption and fraud.

Carbon trading schemes are worried that a recession coupled with rising energy and food prices could set the stage for an anti-carbon trading backlash if people so strapped for cash that they no longer can afford to fuel their cars, heat their homes, or feed their families will become more receptive to the arguments of global warming skeptics.

Well I’ve got news for them shorter cooler summers and longer colder winters are already making people more receptive to the arguments of global warming skeptics. Arguments based on facts rather emotion and propaganda will ultimately win the day.

As much as many people would like to believe that carbon trading schemes are used to subsidize the installation of new renewal energy infrastructure and that they are not used for any other purpose the truth is entirely the opposite. The lack of transparency and debate on the subject speaks volumes about their agenda. Amid the hysterical rhetoric about “climate change” (that very term being transparently dishonest code for “dangerous human-caused global warming”) have you ever heard anyone tell you what real (not imaginary) gain will result from such swingeing expenditures and social disruption?

Carbon trading schemes are getting a lot of bad press lately, and smack of indulgences for the rich and powerful. Progressive environmentalists are now backing off on them, in favor of tighter emissions regulation

Incentives can be devised to encourage investment in real energy change without resorting to carbon trading, carbon offsets or carbon tax. However that will take political will, and that appears unlikely in the west.

I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.

Hi Guys,

I hope that you’ve all had a really great day.

First of all I would like to tell you that I am no eco warrior, environmentalist, survivalist etc. My interest in Renewable Home Energy Solutions started a long time however the cost of renewable energy has always, up to now, been prohibitive. My interest in renewable home energy is purely a selfish one; I want to retain as much of my earnings as possible and to spend it as want to. And I ultimately want to be able to live off the grid, which means no longer paying ever-increasing electricity bills.

To that end I will lay out all the latest technological advances that one could utilize to reduce your energy requirements without reducing your personal comfort. The funny thing is that some of the so-called new ideas are actually quite ancient whilst others are cutting edge.

Over the next few weeks and months I plan to provide you with good solid information with regards to the following:

Passive solar energy

Hot water heating solar panels

Electricity generating solar panels

Photovoltaic cells

Electricity generating wind turbines for the home

Building your own home electricity generating power plant

House design

Calculating your energy requirements

Energy storage including battery types

The case against commercial industrial wind power

The case against commercial industrial bio diesel

I’ll start with an explanation of where I stand on some of the issue that in effect affect the above.

My paradigm or worldview provides me with a framework to organize new thoughts and information. This is how we all “make sense of the world around us.” Our paradigms filter out what doesn’t fit from our worldview. However it appears that for some reason or other we cannot seem to be able to learn what doesn’t conform to our paradigm and because of this, our paradigms can either liberate us or imprison us, depending on how true to our reality they are.

My paradigm has shifted many times in the past. At times the shift is slow and gradual, whilst at other times the shift has been rather sudden and violent. Some 13-years or so ago I had a series of paradigm shifts. I have always been an avid reader and to some extent I have always known that governments, religion, mainstream media, big business & the education system were actively sabotaging society.

With these paradigm shifts I learned not to ever take anything for granted, to cross reference any story, to see through the propaganda and most crucially to follow the money i.e. who benefits.

Repeatedly, through time, some grand fraud or other is concocted by the unholy alliance of governments, religion, mainstream media, big business & the education system, each with its own agenda and vested interest.

This unholy partnership of self interested businesses, so-called scientists, grandstanding politicians, alarmist campaigners and a main stream media pushing their sponsors agendas provide a new twist on a very old practice; companies and individuals using public policy to line their own pockets.

This loose grouping, to put them in the same category as the military-industrial complex, can I supposed, be called the climate-industrial complex. A grouping that does not promote any discussion or free thoughts on environmental matters but will attack and vilify any detractor or person not on message. They would really make the Spanish Inquisition proud by their labeling of any and all dissenters as heretics.

This loose grouping however have their own vested interests and agendas and will at times work against each other, which in my mind is a blessing in disguise.

For the last few years, they’ve been trying to terrorize us into accepting that human society was on the brink of extinction because of man-made global warming. We are warned that, unless we take drastic action to reverse it – then islands will disappear, whole cities will be destroyed and polar bears will drown. However, when the universe conspired against the global warmists by giving us rather cool summers and a really long and cold winter it quickly became climate change.

Climate change has occurred long before man made his apparition on this planet and will continue to do so long after we will disappear from this earth. As this planet has been considerably hotter and colder than it is at the moment, is it not rather egotistical of man to assume that he has an effect upon the earth’s temperature?

The climate-industrial complex / environmentalist movement has taken on a religious like fervour with saint Al Bore as its spokes person.

When it comes to so-called carbon trading, an industry created out of thin air that produces nothing but is going to cost the general public and taxpayer an arm and a leg one should follow the money and check out who will benefit from such a scheme. Interestingly enough Al Bore’s name pops up. He buys his carbon credit from, wait for it, his own carbon trading company. A company he conveniently started in 2004 two years before he brought out the fictional film “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2006. The man whose home uses up as much energy as 20 average US homes. In 2006 he used over 191000 kWh of electricity whilst the average American home only used less than 11000 kWh. How’s this for an inconvenient truth!

Carbon trading is a scam used by the climate-industrial complex to redistribute even more of the taxpayer’s and general public’s wealth into their own coffers and the same as always: the control over our lives for its own sake, thinly disguised by phoney self-righteous posturing.

Hey! If you feel guilty about your so-called carbon footprint or if you believe in this sh1t I’ve got some pet rocks to sell you or even better you can buy your carbon credits from me… For more information email me at… Aw, forget it, I’d be scamming you too wouldn’t I.

The vested interest of climate-industrial complex / environmental movement cares little for the people of this planet. They don’t care that there policies sentences the poorest in Africa, Asia and South America to death just as long as they have done their bit for the “planet”.

Now back to my interest in renewable home energy solutions.

About 13-years ago a friend of mine who worked in photovoltaic (PV) research told me that I would not believe the amount of political interference in their research. And that at that time, keeping in mind that this was 13-years ago, every single home could be self-sufficient in energy. The only thing that was stopping this was the vested interest of energy suppliers and government interference.

The vested interest of the power companies which, apart from the electricity supply companies, also include the gas and oil companies, have kept this virtually free energy away from the general public.

However, various researchers, engineers and enthusiasts have continuously worked on private projects and the information has rippled out into the wider community.

Other advances in the manufacture of improved electrical and electronic equipment as well as in lighting technology has helped to reduce our energy consumption.

Another area that was and to a certain extent still is problematic is the storage of energy, especially electrical energy. However, battery technology is improving and can make a substantially difference to renewable home energy solutions.

This revolution has been long in coming. I believe that we have reached critical mass and that it will be our choice whether we continue paying exorbitant prices to the energy suppliers or we spend a bit of capital up front and enjoy vastly reduced energy bills or even go off-grid altogether.

I believe that there is a place for solar and wind energy, though, probably not in an industrial scale but certainly for home use.

The choice is ours.

Large industrial complexes will still require energy from energy suppliers but we no longer have to help subsidize them.

I wish you everything I wish myself.

Until the next time.
